VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is on track to launch operations at its ₹16,600 crore ($2 billion) EV plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu by the end of June 2025. The factory will initially roll out 50,000 electric SUVs per year, with a phased plan to scale production up to 150,000 units annually.
The company has also confirmed it will debut its VF6 and VF7 electric SUV models across 33 Indian cities this month, as part of a nationwide rollout.
This strategic investment strengthens Tamil Nadu’s status as a rising global hub for clean mobility. The facility will not only boost local employment but also drive up component manufacturing, EV supply chains, and technology partnerships.
However, due to the timing of their commitment, VinFast’s investment may not qualify under India’s newly launched EV manufacturing incentive scheme.
“With global markets shifting toward green transportation, Tamil Nadu is positioning itself as a future-ready EV manufacturing powerhouse,” said an industry analyst.
Stay tuned for more updates on hiring announcements, internship opportunities, and production schedules as VinFast India goes live.
